Uploading Documents
Learn how to upload, manage, and prepare documents for AI analysis.
Supported File Types
Mathom supports the following file formats:
- PDF (.pdf) - Most common for due diligence documents
- Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) - Contracts, memos, reports
- Excel (.xls, .xlsx) - Financial models, data sheets
- PowerPoint (.ppt, .pptx) - Presentations and pitch decks
- Images (.jpg, .png) - Screenshots, diagrams
- Text (.txt, .md) - Plain text documents
Upload Methods
Drag and Drop
- Navigate to your project's Documents tab
- Drag files from your file explorer
- Drop them in the upload area
- Wait for processing to complete
File Picker
- Click "Upload Documents" button
- Select files from the file picker dialog
- Click "Open" to start upload
Bulk Upload
Upload multiple files at once - there's no limit to the number of files you can upload simultaneously.
Document Processing
After upload, documents go through several stages:
- Uploading: File transfer in progress
- Processing: Text extraction and preparation
- Ready: Available for AI analysis
- Error: Processing failed (check file format)
File Size Limits
- Free Tier: Up to 10MB per file
- Pro Tier: Up to 50MB per file
- Enterprise Tier: Up to 200MB per file
Best Practices
✅ Name Files Clearly: Use descriptive filenames
✅ Organize by Type: Group related documents
✅ Check Quality: Ensure PDFs are text-based, not scanned images
✅ Remove Duplicates: Avoid uploading the same file twice
⚠️ Sensitive Data: Ensure compliance with your data policies
Managing Documents
Viewing Documents
Click any document to preview its contents and view metadata.
Deleting Documents
Select documents and click "Delete" - this removes them from analysis.
Re-processing
If a document fails to process, you can retry processing or re-upload.
Troubleshooting
Document stuck in "Processing"?
- Wait a few minutes - large files take time
- If over 10 minutes, try re-uploading
Upload failed?
- Check file size limits
- Verify file format is supported
- Ensure stable internet connection
Text not extracting correctly?
- Scanned PDFs may require OCR
- Try converting to a text-based format
